ipsy November Glam Bag – Beauty Blast

Had to get this post in before the year ends! Liked the theme of this bag and its design.

Here’s what I received:

  • INSPR Beauty Angle liner brush – Nothing special, although you can never have too many brushes.
  • Josie Maran Cosmetics 100% Pure Argan Oil Light – No plans to use this on my face even if it’s a lighter formulation. I might mix it in with a body lotion to help with winter dryness.
  • Pantene Blowout Extend Dry Shampoo – Used it twice and it’s not bad. The scent is strong, as with most dry shampoos I’ve tried. It leaves a bit of a white cast, so comb/brush your hair thoroughly afterward.
  • Smashbox Cosmetics Full Exposure Mascara – I’ll get around to using this after I finish off the 4-5 mascaras I’m currently using. šŸ˜›
  • treStiQue Mini Matte Lip Crayon in Chili Red – Not reaching for this any time soon unless I’m craving a red lip look. I probably would have tried it out if it were a different color.

I decided that this would be the last bag I receive from ipsy. I have gotten plenty of items from them, with a good amount winding up being used once/twice or not at all. Rather than tell you, I’ll show you how long I’ve been a subscriber.

It’s been a good run! Maybe I’ll consider returning later next year. We’ll see.

ipsy October Glam Bag – Alter Ego

Last month’s bag theme focused on being able to “transform into whoever you want to be”, and being able to use beauty as a means of personal expression.

What’s in the bag?

  • Emite Make Up Professional Slant Tweezer – I aready have a go-to pair of tweezers, but this can easily be tossed into my toiletry bag during travel.
  • Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask – I have yet to use a hair mask, but I figure this would be similar to a deep conditioner. No plans on using it any time soon.
  • LeeAnni Eco Go Away Gloomy Day Serum – As adorable as the product name is, I don’t see myself using this right away either. I’m currently trying to clear my face from a past acne breakout, so I don’t want to introduce anything new to it just yet.
  • tarte deluxe LipSurgence skintuitive lip gloss in energy – My favorite product from this bag. I’m not the biggest fan of pink colored anything, but I liked the shade that this gloss had. It applies clear, then produces a custom pink shade according to your skin’s pH. Science, y’all!
Wearing the tarte gloss by itself. The pink shade is very subtle, which I like.
  • theBalm Cosmetics Mary-Lou Manizer – I’ve got more than enough highlighters for the time being thanks to ipsy. This isn’t too shimmery and adds just the right amount of glow.

With the exception of the 2 products I have yet to try, this was another nice Glam Bag.

ipsy September Glam Bag – Face Fashion

This month’s bag featured products that would make a great transition to Fall.

What’s in my bag?

City Color Cosmetics City Chic in One Night StandĀ – This shade is a medium bright pink, which is sorta out of my comfort zone when it comes to lip products. Sure enough, it was exactly that when I put it on. I managed to tone down the color a bit by adding a layer of dark berry gloss over it. The formula isn’t drying and lasts quite a while.

Eau Thermale Avene Soothing Moisture Mask –Ā I wasn’t expecting too much from this mask. It felt like a thick moisturizer going on. After a few minutes, it’s removed with a cotton pad, per the directions. I just hopped in the shower instead. It left my face smooth.

NYX Cosmetics ipsy Eye Shadow Trio – NYX has yet to stir me wrong with their products. This mini palette of neutral shadows is great to use any time of the day. I used the lightest shade all over the lid, followed by he middle in the crease, then lined my upper lash line with the black.

Temptu S/B Highlighter in Champagne Shimmer – I almost thought I was getting a dupe from a past bag, but noticed it was a different shade and in a larger container. I dabbed a little above my cheeks and in the center of my nose. Not bad!

Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in Elegantly Wasted – I was surprised to receive this because I had thought I didn’t request nail polish to be in my bags anymore. Regardless of that, I actually don’t mind the shade.

Coverage after 1 coat.

4 out of 5 items get a thumbs up! I’ve re-taken their product quiz once again to see if I’ll be receiving anything different in future bags.

ipsy August Glam Bag – Prep School

I got a nice lineup of items to try in this month’s bag. It’s enough to help putĀ together a simple look for school or work. The bag itself is something Cher would probably have carried around with her in “Clueless”.

What’s in the bag?

  • Beauty Without Cruelty Leave In Conditioner – This has a creamy formula and my hair was easy to comb through after applying it. It was soft and manageable the next day. I could to without the aromatherapy scent though.
  • Doll 10 Beauty HydraGel Blush in Flirt – I was looking forward to this item since I had never used a cream blush before. This was easy to apply and blend with my finger or sponge. The shade is nice too. Word of caution if you’ve received this: Handle the compact carefully, because the mirror cracked when I accidentally dropped it on my linoleum floor. Boo.
  • Hikari Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Merlot – This is slightly out of my normal color preference since it’s on the darker side. but I actually liked this more than I thought. I felt that the texture was slightly sticky, so I wouldn’t want to wear this with my hair down. Not a good look on a windy day! It leaves a bit of a stain when it wears off too.
  • Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics Eye Shadow Primer – I had another first with this since I usually use eye primers from a tube. I liked the doe foot applicator, and the wear time seems pretty good. I’ll have to really test it out while wearing shadow for more than 4 hours.
  • La Fresh Group Good Night Night Cream – After having a good experience with their day cream, I figured the same would happen with this one. Yep, I was right. I used it on the driest parts of my face and they felt smooth like a baby’s bottom.

AllĀ items get a thumbs up from me for this bag.

ipsy July Glam Bag – Summer Lovin’

A bit late with this review, but here’s what I received in last month’s bag:

  • Be a Bombshell Lip Balm in French Kiss- Nothing special with this one, unfortunately. It was a pale pink shade that looked as good as clear on my lips unless I layered it. I could use this as a base before applying lip color or lip gloss.
  • Octavio Molina Hair La Playa Salt Spray – This is the first time I’ve used a salt spray, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. I did know that these types of sprays add texture to your hair. I sprayed it on mine before putting it up in a bun. Once I let it down in the evening, the result was nice loose waves. I like how it doesn’t leave any stiffness, and I was able to easily comb through my hair with my fingers.
  • OFRA Cosmetics Bliss Eyeshadow – It came as a single eyeshadow pan, one you would place in either a Z Palette or other palette for single pans. Tried using it as a highlighter and it worked well. Hoever, I wouldn’t use too much on the bridge of your nose. Can’t say it’s too amazing since I have shadows that are a similar color.
  • tarte Deluxe Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess – My first tarte product through ipsy! I wore this to a pool party a few weeks ago and it stayed put the entire time I had it on. Didn’t test out the “waterproof” aspect of it, but I did sweat a bit and it didn’t run off my face. I’m still trying to get the hang of contouring/bronzing, but this is a shade that I can easily work with.
  • Vasanti Brighten Up! Exfoliating Cleanser – I’ve been using this once a week since I received it, and it does a pretty good job. Although it feels like it can have more of an exfoliating effect, it left my face really smooth.
Top to bottom: Be a Bombshell lip balm in French Kiss (3 swipes), OFRA Cosmetics Bliss eyeshadow, tarte Deluxe Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Ave Princess

Overall, I liked 3 out of the 5 items.

ipsy June Glam Bag – Swim Into Beauty

Who else is happy that Summer is here? I sure am. This bag has some items that I would find essential for the season.

What’s in the bag:

  • Absolute New York Nail Lacquer in Turquoise – Never heard of the brand before, but I got a great first impression of this nail color. It showed nice coverage after just 1 coat. This reminds me of the San Jose Sharks’ (my favorite hockey team) colors, so I’ll be using this well beyond the summer months.
Not bad for 1 coat.
  • Dr. Brandt Skincare Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner – A face masks that loosens and extracts blackheads? Where has this been all my life?! You can actually “feel” this working due to a cooling then tightening sensation. The mask goes on clear at first, then dries light blue. My pores were noticeably smaller after using it, and they’ve actually stayed that way. I’ll definitely be using this until it’s empty.
  • Pure Brazilian Miracle Leave-In Conditioner – Infused with keratin, this conditioner is said to help hydrate hair and repair damage. I’ve only used it twice and haven’t seen anything more noticeable than the other leave-in I already have. The scent is a bit strong, but disappears a bit afterward.
  • Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer – It was nice to get a hold of this product in my bag. I’ve used it before from a much smaller tube and loved the results. One of my top high end primers! I’ll be using this during my trip in a few weeks.
  • tre’StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon in Aspen Pine – I liked the olive green color of this product, as for the shadow itself, not so much. It has a little too much shimmer for my liking. I didn’t apply too much on my lids because cream shadows tend to crease on me. I’ll try it a few more times and hopefully it’ll stir me wrong.

Swatched twice. Looks pretty dark, but has sheerer coverage when applied lightly.

I would say I liked 4 out of the 5 items I received, but I plan to use them all up.

ipsy May Glam Bag – Jetsetter

The timing for this bag was impeccable! I tried everything I received prior to my trip a week later.

What’s in the bag?

  • BellaPierre Cosmetics Waterproof Mineral Gel Eyeliner Pencil – This was the one thing I didn’t bring on my trip. I was able to smudge it out after applying, and it lasted for the time I had it on and didn’t transfer to other parts of my eyelids.
  • CoTZ Face Natural SPF 40 – Very happy to get this since I needed face sunblock for my trip. It had a slight tint and felt like a primer when I applied it. Sure enough, the product information stated that it could be used by itself or under makeup. There was the occasional need to blot, but overall a great product and the first of the ipsy products receivedĀ that I plan to purchase in its full size.
  • Luxie Beauty Tapered Blending Eye Brush 205Ā  – Always love being able to try a new eye shadow brush. The bristles on this were soft and the brush itself worked great with blending. I can never have too many of these, yet. This is only the 3rd or 4th blending brush I own.
  • St. Tropez One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion – I don’t think I want to wear anything that shows even a bit of leg nowadays without first applying something that’ll add a little color to them. This went on nicely and dried quick, so I was able to get changed right away. Wash your hands well after using it, because they will look funky. šŸ˜› Wouldn’t say the color pay off is as great as Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs, but it also washes off with soap and water, which is nice.
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencil + Bonus Revolution High-Color LipglossĀ – THEĀ best items out of the May bag! The glosses came in Bittersweet and Failbait. The lip pencil is a must with these or any type of color rich gloss because it really does what it’s supposed to do…keep them in it’s place! For someone who doesn’t really love brights, I couldn’t get over how pretty Bittersweet was. I emptied out both samples into small travel containers and will use them until they’re finished. I wouldn’t be happy wasting such an awesome product. The texture is a bit sticky, but it kept my lips hydrated. I will definitely be getting the pencil and possibly BittersweetĀ full sized as well in the near future.

Overall, ipsy did darn well with their May bag. Another thumbs up for 5/5 items! šŸ˜€

ipsy April Glam Bag – Beautifully Bohemian

“Festival Season” is what immediately came to mind when I saw this month’s bag. It’s something you could easily toss into your purse and bring with you to Coachella.

Here’s what I received:

  • Hikari Cosmetics blush in Tango – The bright pink shade made me cringe a little (not a big fan of brights). However, using a light hand when applying it will make the color look subtle. Just don’t go overboard to avoid looking clownish.
  • MicaBeauty eye primer – Although the product description states it won’t make your shadow crease, I actually saw creasing on both eyes after using this for a night out. The texture of it isn’t as creamy compared to the primers I currently use from a tube. My experience with this brand altogether hasn’t been so great. I’ll give it another try, but I’m most likely going to toss it out.
  • Olive Natural Beauty The Olive lip balm – I have more than enough lip balms, so there wasn’t much excitement upon receiving this product. However, it goes on nicely and isn’t waxy. I applied it this morning and my lips feel moisturized.
  • Starlooks Satin Finish lip gloss in Cuddle – Neutral lip gloss is always a plus for me. You can bring this tiny tube anywhere. It also has a nice vanilla scent/flavor.
  • theBalm Cosmetics Nude Dude eye shadow single in Fit – First of all, the packaging of this is hilarious. This shimmery copper shade blends nicely, which easily makes it a shadow that I plan to use often.

Swatches with room light (L) and natural light (R). From top to bottom: Starlooks lip gloss in Cuddle, theBalm Nude Dude eye shadow in Fit, Hikari blush in Tango, and MicaBeauty eye primer.

With the exception of the eye primer, I enjoyed the items from this bag. I decided to re-take the style quiz again on ipsy to see if I can get different items next month. Bring it on, May!

ipsy March Glam Bag – Floral Fantasy

If the weather around my area or the sudden heightening of my allergies wasn’t any indication of the upcoming change of season, then this bag sure is. Just the design screams “Hello Spring!”

Here’s what I received:

  • Coolway Glow Oil Treatment – My first thoughts when I think about hair oil is often “Nope.” It’s bad enough when the greasies creep up on my roots, and I don’t even use hair styling products other than leave-in conditioner. Although the scent of this was rather strong at first, it faded about an hour after I applied it to my ends. A dime sized amount is plenty. Any more and it would weigh my hair down. My ends didn’t feel as dry after I used it.
  • Evelyn Iona Cosmetics concealer in Medium Ivory – Considering this was the only shade being sent out to subscribers, chances are it would either be a hit or miss. Luckily, it suited my skin tone, although I wish the coverage could have been slightly better for my dark spots.
  • NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick in Pops – Glad I got this instead of the really pink or dark purple shade they offered. It had smooth application, no fragrance, didn’t dry out my lips, and actually lasted a good while even after eating and drinking. For someone who hasn’t worn lipstick in who knows how long, I would consider purchasing this.
  • Pur-lisse Beauty Pur-delicate gentle soy milk cleanser & makeup remover – I’m usually one for suds/foaming when it comes to cleansers. The creamy formula had a light scent and left my face soft, not dried out or tight. I used it twice in a row to make sure it actually took off most (if not all) of the BB cream I used earlier in the day.
  • VINTAGE by Jessica Liebeskind Illuminating Face Highlighter – The light pink shimmery shade reminded me of High Beam from Benefit, except in powder form. I used it on my brow bones, bridge of the nose, and cheek bones. The results are nice and subtle since it’s easy to blend in. I actually prefer this to a liquid based highlighter.

I’m happy to say that this is the first time I was pleased with all 5 products in my bag. Whoop!

ipsy February Glam Bag – #ipsyLove

Another month, another bag from ipsy. It had a Valentine’s Day feel to it since the bag was pink.

Here is what I received and my thoughts:

  • China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Marry A Millionaire – This polish contained lavender and iridescent glitter. Again, in tune with the February theme as it reminded me of the colors of Mardi Gras. Good to use layered over plain polish or by itself (2-3 coats will bring out the lavender color more).
1 coat of the polish.
1 coat of the polish.
  • City Color Cosmetics Lip Balm in Spice – As happy as I was to receive this neutral color, it looked better swatched on my arm than on my lips. In fact, after I applied it, it actually looked chalky and made my face look washed out. No thanks.
  • Demeter Fragrance Library First Love Roll On Perfume Oil – I was curious about this since I never used perfume oil. I liked how it was a roll on, but the scent was too floral for my taste. Also, I had assumed the staying power would be good since it was an oil, but it faded after only an hour. According to the ipsy site, this was exclusively released in South Korea to rave reviews. I beg to differ with that, unfortunately.
  • Hey Honey Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask – I always love me a good peel off mask. I have to agree with another ipsy user’s comment about the experience of using one being similar to peeling Elmer’s glue off of your skin during elementary school. What, you never did that?! I used this before taking a shower and my skin felt great after I removed it. I expected it to smell even just slightly of honey, but it was more like roses. No complaints here though.
  • ModelCo BLUSH Cheek Powder in Peach Bellini – According to the product’s description, this was supposed to be a pressed powder blush. I will emphasize that last part because what I received was definitely not pressed powder. If I didn’t open it up carefully, it would have either exploded in my face or get all over my counter. Long story short, this looked like loose powder without a sifter; very messy! I managed to pack some of it into the container, but wasted a good amount having to clean it up a bit. I swatched this and used it over the past weekend. Nice color for my skin tone. I’ll have to try to bring it back to its pressed form before using it again.

Overall, the nail polish, peel off mask, and blush get the yays. The nays go to the lip balm and perfume oil.
