Day 9 – Your Favorite Original Character

As Walt Disney himself put it, “It was all started by a mouse.” That mouse he’s referring to is none other than Mickey Mouse. He first made his debut in the short film Steamboat Willie, which was also one of the first cartoons to contain sound.

He eventually appeared in more cartoons, which introduced more of the original Disney lineup. This included Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Pluto.

Some interesting facts about Mickey:

– Official mascot of The Walt Disney Company

– First comic strip appearance was on January 1930

– First cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

I always try to look out for Mickey whenever I visit Disneyland. My day there doesn’t seem complete unless I see him. Even better if I get to take a photo with him too. This one from the Disney half marathon weekend 2 years ago is one of my favorites.

My boss is obsessed with Mickey – her wedding ring has a hidden Mickey face in the design, ha! I never knew about hidden Mickey faces until she schooled me.
